Get rid of that fishing rod that is commonly known as the stock antenna. This quick video shows you how to swap in a shorter antenna for a sleeker look.

There are several different types of shorter antennae available at American Muscle.com. The prices are about the same and all include free shipping.

What You'll Need

Wrenches: 3/8 and 5/16 inch should work fine. You want to be able to slip a towel or rag in between the antenna and the wrench to keep it from chipping or scratching.

Applications

This video applies to most cars with a screw-on antenna.

Original Transcript

I think most of us ignore how tall the stock antenna is but once you do you are going to want to do something about it. From this view we see that the antenna towers over the roof of the car. Not exactly a "sleek" look. Luckily you can install a shorter antenna like this one from American Muscle with a few simple wrenches.

The kit comes with 3 different adapters to make sure we get a perfect fit.

Again it's hard not to notice what looks like a fishing rod on top of the fender. The first thing we want to do is remove the original antenna by simply unscrewing it from the base.

All three adapters have one end that fits into the antenna. Figure out which side that is for each of adapter if you can't tell by looking. Then we know not to try these ends on the antenna base plate.

So from here it's kind of like Goldilocks. The first one we try looks like it's too fat. Let's see about this second one...nope too skinny. Well that leaves one more and it doesn't quite look like it will work but I try it anyway. A perfect fit!

To tighten we will use the slightly larger wrench and a towel. You don't want to scratch or chip your new part. Now you can barely see the new antenna but trust me it's there.

It looks better from every angle. Radio reception shouldn't be affected too much but to be honest I don't even listen to the radio anymore. So that's it. Simple mod but it's the little things that make the difference!
